Unless you’re an avid follower of Canadian sci-fi television, chances are you’re not hip to Continuum. Despite (or maybe because of) the comfortable, buzzwordy premise—attractive female cop from the future ends up in the present—the show has never really hit big. Which is too bad, because Continuum has all the necessary ingredients for obsession-worthy TV: lots of good-looking people beating each other up, cool gizmos, explosions, and a host of worldbuilding and disquieting moral dilemmas, too.
The show follows Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), a young CPS agent (basically, a police officer with a super-suit and cybernetic implants) from 2077 Vancouver, which has been ruled by corporations since the government went bankrupt. Suddenly Kiera gets swept back to 2012 along with key members of the anti-corporate terrorist group Liber8, a surprisingly likable bunch of violently temperamental super soldiers, amoral scientists, and con artists. Turns out this is part of Liber8’s elaborate plan to change the future forever. Kiera teams up with Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen), a dorky teenage tech genius, and Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster), a mostly decorative hunky police officer, to stop Liber8 and get home to her family.
Time travel. Terrorists. Canada.
